Save your Box Tops!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to another great year at Shanahan Middle School! My name is Sonia Wilson and I’m the volunteer coordinator for Box Tops for Education. This year, our goal is to raise $500 to purchase books and essential supplies.

We can Earn Points by:

Clip- Clip Box Top coupons from hundreds of participating products and send them to school.  Box Tops coupons are worth 10 cents each when our school redeems them from Box Tops for Education.

Shop- Shop at your favortie online stores through the Box Tops Marketplace (btfe.com/marketplace).  Up to 8% of each qualifying purchase is automatically donated to our school.  There is no additional cost to your purchase and many exclusive deals and discounts can be found!

Buy books- Purchase books online at Barnes & Noble through the Box Tops Reading Room.  Our school will receive 6% of your new book purchases and 3% of all other online purchases.

Box Tops for Education is a great way to help without additional expense. Just clip the “tops”, send in with your child’s name and Team number. A collection box will be located near the front entrance. There will be updates posted on the SMS PTO Website during the school year. Please contact me via email at soniawilson@insight.rr.com, if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support. Start clipping your Box Tops!

Sincerely-

Sonia Wilson

FUNDRAISING INFORMATION

FOR THE  8TH GRADE TRIP TO WASHINGTON D.C.

Students have the opportunity through fundraisers to earn money towards their 8th Grade trip to Washington D.C. (All information is subject to change each year):

Here are some of the ways you could earn money for the trip:

Entertainment Coupon Book sales – the student earns $5.00 per book sold. This fundraiser is run by the PTO and occurs in the fall of each school year.

Magazine Sales – the student earns 36% of the total magazines he/she sells. This fundraiser is run by the school with parent volunteer assistance and also occurs in the fall of each school year.

SCRIP Programs – SCRIP (another word for PTO’s gift card program) is purchased through the PTO throughout the year. The cut-off for earning SCRIP for the Washington D.C. trip is at the end of the student’s first semester (2nd grading period) of his/her 8th grade year. Here’s a detailed description of all three programs:

  • SCRIP:  This gift card program is an ongoing project to raise money for our school.  Two percent of your total order will also be applied to your child’s Washington DC trip.  The PTO purchases gift cards at a discount from participating merchants and sells them to you at face value.  Our profit comes directly from the merchant, not you!  The gift cards are just like cash and should be treated and protected as such.  Order forms are available in the school office or online.

  • KROGER:  May 1st, 2009 Kroger has implemented the new Kroger Community Rewards program. Using your Kroger Plus card, credit will be given to OSMS on the amount of spending done by our families in comparison with other organizations.  Just sign up at krogercommunity rewards.com and select organization #80365 (OSMSPTO).

  • MEIJER ONE REWARDS:  Use your Meijer One credit card for all Meijer purchases and receive .025 percent towards your child’s Washington DC trip.  Sign up at Meijer.com and select organization #676234 (OSMSPTO).

  • Records are kept for each student by the Washington D.C. Trip Advisors. The money is held in a class account by the Treasurer’s office.
  • No monies are to be “transferred” to or held for another student; this includes siblings. Any extra money earned stays with that class and is used to offset expenses of events in high school.
  • In the fall of the students’ 8th grade year, a deposit is required. All students who intend on participating must pay this deposit. In the event that the student has raised enough funds to cover the entire cost of the trip, a refund of extra monies from only the deposit will be made by the Treasurer’s office before the trip occurs.
  • Parents will be updated annually as to what their balance is in their Washington D.C. account.
